W1: FLOSS Education: Long-term sustainability (FLOSSEdu 2012)

Thursday, 13 September 2012
Organizers:
Jesús M. González-Barahona (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain)
Wouter Tebbens (Free Knowledge Institute, The Netherlands)
Gregorio Robles (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Spain)

Learning in any environment has undergone major changes in recent times. Many of these changes are closely related or are similar to processes or solutions found traditionally in Free/Libre and Open Source (FLOSS) environments: peer to peer relationships, telematic support, use of new technologies, etc. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together free software experts to discuss challenges that we face in the educational world at present and and that we will face in the future and how they can be undertaken from a FLOSS perspective.

W2: Mobile Free and Open Source Software (mFOSS 2012)

Thursday, 13 September 2012
Organizers:
Anthony I Wasserman (Carnegie Mellon University – Silicon Valley, USA)

Mobile Computing is a key future direction for software development. Already, there are more than a million applications (apps) available for various mobile platforms. As with traditional desktop and serverbased systems and applications, the environment is a mixture of proprietary and FLOSS software. The goal of this workshop is to assess the state of the art of open source platforms and applications for mobile devices, and to create a research agenda and development roadmap for future work.
